Beaches

The next time you’re relaxing seaside, take advantage of the abundant, dense sand. Beach runs are a great cardiovascular workout that’ll take things to the next level. Instead of pushing off of solid ground, you’ll have to work extra hard to pick your feet up off of the sand. You’ll get a better burn in less time, and your body will thank you for it—the spongy sand helps absorb the impact of each footstrike to ease the force on your body. Need some inspiration? Lakes

Swimming not really your thing? Water aerobics is a killer full-body workout too. If you’re really, really not in the mood to get wet, rent a kayak or canoe for a simple upper-body workout.

Cities and Urban Areas

City sprawls are some of the most versatile and fitness-friendly locations around. Lots of urban features, even the most mundane, are surprisingly effective replacements for standard gym equipment. Stairs, walls, and even benches are perfect tools for strength training. Use stairs for calf raises. Use the sides of buildings for wall squats. Use benches for box jumps, single-leg lunges, tricep dips, and inverted pushups. No matter where in the city you are, there’s bound to be something you can put to good use.

Mountains

For many in the hot, barren desert, desert biking is the workout of choice. Like mountain biking, desert biking is a quick way to build lean muscle and improve endurance.
